A new methodology for small wind turbines production assessments - reliable, swift and cost effective :

Up to this day, all the studies concerning production assessment for small turbines came from regional atlases or faraway meteorological stations, achieving only a sketchy production assessment or requiring the implantation of a measuring maste. This would lead to large initial investments that could cause prejudice to the development of small turbines implementation.
That is why Equitao has elaborated a new study method dedicated to the small turbines in order to assess through statistics the production of a small turbine for the particulars without the implantation of a measuring mast.
Based on the global and national meteorologic facts and methods , it takes into account the site particular terrain and the around obstacles. Then, based on a simulation of winds on a small scale (méso-scale), on the integration of the power curves and on the data of the chosen small turbine, it enables an evaluation of the production based on valid numerical wind models ( the same ones as those used for the «bigger turbines»).
As such, it is possible to determine quickly and according to the demand, what the statistic annual production will be for a particular site and for a particular small turbine.
This method is slightly less precise than a year long campaign of measures with an equipped tower. Nevertheless, it establishes an annual production statistic for the future (worth 10 years) that remains more trustworthy than a campaign that lasts only half a year, and much more reliable than data received from faraway meteorologic stations. Furthermore, it is a quick solution, far more ecologic and cost effective for developers/fitters who work in the small wind turbines sector, or for the particulars or the collectivities who would like to know what their wind potential is.
